EMPTYING THE NOGGIN – Al Jefferson carries the Jazz to win in final home game

EMPTYING THE NOGGIN
• Special night by Al Jefferson. The first player in the NBA this season to have 40 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. He finished the night with 40 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists. He had 29 points in the 2nd half.

• Al just picked the team up and carried them to the victory. It was reminiscent of the performance Al put out against Dallas last year when he had 28 points and 26 rebounds only it was some how better. It was the best performance of Al’s career.

• The Wolves battled tonight and the Jazz never got the defense they needed to run away with the game.

• The Jazz started well, lead 30-22 but JJ Barea got crazy hot on the pick and roll and got inside the lane and torched the Jazz with the first 10 points of the 2nd quarter and coupled with a 12 to 2 run the Wolves lead by 1 at the half 54-53.

• Then Jefferson took over. 19 points in the 3rd quarter and another 10 in the 4th quarter. Jefferson was 5 of 8 in the 4t quarter and 2 major assists.

• The Jefferson assists in the 4th quarter were to Burks and Foye both for 3 so Jefferson was directly related to 16 of the 25 Jazz 4th quarter points and 6 of the other 9 came on Mo Williams free throws. Foye had a 3 at the 6:07 mark other than that Al either scored or assists on 23 of the Jazz 26 points from the 1:10 mark of the 3rd to the :20 mark of the 4th quarter.

• Randy Foye guarded JJ Barea and slowed him down.

• Paul Millsap played 5:21 in the 2nd half .

• Alec Burks came back into the rotation did a nice job tonight playing both the 1 and the 2. He hit some big shots and played well. Nice to have him back.

• Jazz hustled tonight and stopped a lot of transition plays with deflections but the half court defense was problematic. The Wolves are 25th in offense and they shot 46% and hit 8 three’s. Luckily, the Wolves went cold late in the game and the Jazz were able to overcome the Wolves.

• Spent some time before the game with Hot Rod’s wife. She was in town but Hot Rod was in Arizona. He is doing well. Enjoying travel but at times feels the effects of old age.

• Strange to see the Jazz players walk out the tunnel and wonder who will be back.

• Hopefully, they will be back for Game 3 of the playoffs.

• Thanks Big Al that was awesome.
