EMPTYING THE NOGGIN – Jazz do something the Lakers and Warriors didn’t do.

• Jazz get a needed win against Orlando Magic. The game followed the same script that the Magic used to beat the Lakers and the Warriors, slow 1st quarter, stay in the game and then work their way into the game and win it. Tonight they took the lead at 79-78 with 3:34 left and the Jazz outscored the Magic 9-2 down the stretch to win. Randy Foye hit a big three and Al Jefferson made two big time shots down the stretch.

• This was not pretty but the Jazz got the win and the Magic are not going to let you play a pretty game. The Jazz held the Magic to a season low 15 points in the first quarter and a season low 34 points in the first half. The Magic came in as the 28th ranked offensive team the Jazz didn’t let them look good. That is important. Make them look bad if they are.

• DeMarre Carroll and Earl Watson changed the game with their energy in the 3rd quarter. The Jazz had zero collective energy to start the 3rd quarter and had it not been for the juice Carroll and Watson brought to the game the Jazz would have been in serious trouble. Corbin rode with Watson for an extended run in the 4th quarter – Watson finished playing 16 minutes and was plus 5 after two tough +/- nights.

• Al Jefferson was mammoth tonight – 31 points and 15 rebounds and did a nice job defensively. Late in the game it was the Big Al show. Jefferson did a nice job going to the rim and he schooled the 2nd year player Vucevic. Jefferson was 13 of 20 from the field.

• Paul Millsap got his grove back tonight playing a floor laden Glen Davis he was able to get himself going with 22 points. The 4 rebounds, 3 of them on the defensive end in 39 minutes is not up to his usual levels.

• Gordon Hayward didn’t have a good shooting night at 0 for 6 but did a nice job defending JJ Redick. He made Redick work and never allowed him to get a rhythm. In addition, the switch by Corbin to get Foye off Afflalo and put Marvin on Afflalo took Afflalo out of the game. Hayward on Redick and Marvin on Afflalo was very good. No question with Gordon and Marvin on the floor together the Jazz are far better defensively.

• Kanter has to rebound. He has simply stopped battling for boards. Last year he rebounding at the same rate as Kevin Love and this year he is rebounding at the same rate as Johan Petro.

• If Jefferson misses on Friday – Kanter and Evans will have to show their worth.

• Nice to have Marvin Williams back the Jazz are a better team with Marvin Williams on the floor.

• Win over the Magic tonight is something the Lakers and Warriors didn’t do. This team still has to make huge strides to improve but this is a win you had to have.
